Organizing your kid’s clothes can be a pain. You want their clothes to look great and be accessible when you need them, too. There are many different ways to organize your kid’s clothes. Here are some tips for getting your child’s clothing organized.
If you are arranging your child’s dresser or closet, arrange their clothes by type. Separate the shirts, the pants and the underwear into groups. If your child has dressy or church clothes, put those together. Hang them up so that you don’t have to worry about ironing them when you are ready to use them. You can put the clothes into smaller categories, too. If you have babies or toddlers who aren’t yet dressing themselves, or still need help, this is a good idea because your child probably won’t keep the piles organized for too long. Put short sleeved shirts in one pile, long sleeved in another and sweaters in another. It works great and allows you to grab the shirt you need quickly.
Create a drawer for items that they don’t have very many of, such as under shirts, tights or slips. Keeping them together in a group, put them in the underwear or sock drawer. By doing this, you will know where items are while not wasting space where there is no need.
When it’s time to go through your child’s closet and remove clothes that are too small, get a box, or several, depending upon how much clothing your child has outgrown. If your child has a lot clothing, organize the items by types; if you have enough items, you might want to have a box for shirts and a box for pants. Mark the size and gender of the clothes on the outside of the box.
If you go through the closet often, then a box for a certain size of clothes will probably be sufficient. Again, mark the gender, but instead of organizing them by type, just put size, 12 months to 18 months for example, on the outside. This will save you time and you’ll only need one or two boxes.
When you store boxes of children’s clothes, put them together. If you know how many boxes you have of a certain size, mark them accordingly. For example, you might mark box 1 as box 1 of 3 or something similar, so that you know how many boxes of that size there are. This works well for anything that you are storing. Keep the boxes together so that you don’t lose track of them; you will know exactly where the baby clothes are when it’s time to get them out again.
Keep boxes on the top shelf of the closet full of everyday clothes that still fit your children. When you go on vacation, or if a cold front comes, you will want them handy and accessible. Use that space for other things that still fit your child but aren’t used terribly often. It will free up the closet and dresser space while keeping them handy.
When you are organizing your child’s clothes pay attention to detail. Being organized will save you time and money because you will know what you have and what you need. You will also be able to grab anything you need quickly and without digging into the corners of your garage.
