It seems like every boy goes through a dinosaur phase. Their favorite movie is Land Before Time. Their favorite toy is a dinosaur. They always want to dress in their dinosaur pajamas. And they pretend to be a dinosaur during the day. It’s like so many other boys, your boy loves dinosaurs and a dinosaur themed room is the perfect choice. The following are some fun creative decorating ideas for a dinosaur themed boy’s room.
Idea number one: paint your boy’s room like a dinosaur oasis. There are a number of ways to do this. For an inexpensive option, consider purchasing a dinosaur cookie cutter and a sponge. Use the cookie cutter to outline a dinosaur shape on a sponge, and cut the sponge into correct shape. You can then use this dinosaur shaped sponge to sponge paint your walls. Choose a number of paint colors and creates several different dinosaur shaped sponges to create your own little dinosaur world right on the wall. If sponge painted dinosaurs are too childish, consider painting the room like a jungle or desert or dinosaurs live. You could then use a stencil to create a large life like dinosaurs. To make it easier to transfer out of the dinosaur stage, consider using a dinosaur themed or pattern border on a solid colored wall. These are easy to remove or replace with a new theme when your child’s interest changes.
Idea number two: create a dinosaur themed window treatment by visiting your local fabric store. Browse the available fabrics, and choose one that has a great dinosaur print. This might mean dinosaur tracks, or it might be life like dinosaurs or cartoon like dinosaurs. You can create simple curtains with just a few simple seams on a basic sewing machine. If you do not want dinosaur printed curtains, consider buying solid curtains. You can then buy dinosaur printed tiebacks or glue dinosaur toys to a metal tieback to create a unique look.
Idea number three: make your room even more unique by creating your own curtain rods. Go to your local dollar store and choose two average sized dinosaur toys. Purchase a wooden dowel the length of your window, and a few inches wider. You can then cut slits in the dinosaurs and insert the dowel into the slits. To add your curtain simply removed one dinosaur and replace after curtain is on the rod. You will have a unique curtain rod. Nobody else will have one like it.
Idea number four: in a bedroom the bed is usually the focal point. For a dinosaur themed room you want to make sure that the bed and a bedspread acknowledge the theme. You can visit a local retail store like Wal-Mart or target, and typically find a dinosaur printed bedspread for a reasonable price. If you cannot find a bedspread that you like consider making a bedspread or coverlet out of the same material used to create your curtain. A tied quilt is simple and fairly inexpensive to make. If possible accent the bed with dinosaur shaped throw pillows, or at least adorn with dinosaur stuffed animals.
Idea number five: use other dinosaurs and dinosaur shaped items to decorate their rooms consider buying a dinosaur shaped clock, dinosaur toys, books shaped as dinosaurs, and anything else you can find. You do not want to overdo it with the dinosaurs, but a few selective accents here and there can make a real difference.
