When you design and paint a child’s room, you want it to last for a long time. You don’t want to have to redo everything in a couple years or even in 10. If you are thinking about themes you want to do for your child’s room that you want them to keep for a long time, then try some of these ideas.
Paint your walls a neutral color. It doesn’t matter which color, just one that you like and your child likes. Decrorate the room around it. Pick a theme they like now and then buy a bedspread, pictures, and other décor for the room. You won’t have to paint every time that your child decides they want different decorations in their room. This is an option if you really want the easiest way. You won’t have to do work like painting but you will have to buy different décor over the years.
If your child likes a certain color, do a theme around that. Once kids are a little older, they pick a color and usually stick with it or like it for a long time. You can create a great room around one or more colors. Pick ones that work well together and ones that your kids love. Create borders with paint. You can have chair high borders or borders around the top and bottom of the room. To make it a little more interesting, you can paint two walls the same color and then the other two walls a different color. It will add color to your room while at the same time creating a theme that will last for a long time.
Think about a favorite hobby that your child has. Create a room around that. Hobbies are something that children do grow out of, but it is also something that they love. Some children don’t grow out of them, or don’t stop loving them so they are a great idea for a child’s room. You can paint the wall a color that is associated with the hobby or just a neutral color and then add décor around the paint. Buy things like bedspreads, art work, and furniture that has to do with the hobby. You don’t have to buy a chair covered with stamps or horses, but you can buy a chair that looks old and like an antique. It will add style to the room and a little bit of history.
Create a room about a vacation or a certain place that they love. If they love mountains, create an outdoorsy kind of room. Use things like earth tones and put up fun adventurous artwork. It will be something that your child loves and gets to enjoy from their own room.
Themes are important when you are designing a room. They add style and pull the room together. Themes can be hard when you have children that change their minds so often. But try some of these themes the next that you are designing your child’s room and see how much they love it and how long they love it.
