Picking out paint colors is hard. There are so many different choices and styles to choose from. When you paint a child’s room, you want it to look great and last for a long time. Let’s look at some great colors for kids rooms.
Colors can make people feel certain ways and so you want a reflection of who they are or how they act in the room. If you have a child that is super active and plays all day long without taking any breathers, you might want a really bright and fun color, like a lime green or a bright pink. It stands out but that is also how your child is. They radiate fun and playfulness. If you have a child that is more thoughtful and likes to read, but still have fun, you can do a more subdued color, but one that is also fun. You can try colors like a teal, light brown with other colors too, or a not so bright shade of any color. You don’t want colors that feel depressing or like they really don’t portray your child. Kids have their own unique style and that should be reflected in the paint that you pick for their room.
If you are trying to do a room that will most likely become another’s someday and don’t want to have to repaint it, find a happy color that both would love. If you have a really stylish daughter that is going to use the room and then a younger athletic brother later on, try a mix of colors that both like. Browns and blues are colors that both usually love and mixing them and creating layers around the room really can help make it look great and fit both of them. They can always use different pictures to decorate so picking a base is just the beginning and can look completely different when it becomes someone else’s room.
Bright colors are always great. If you have a child that is really active and loves playing outside, then this is a great choice. Not all children will love bright colors for a long time, so if you do decide to use a brighter color, make sure that it is a color that your child can at least just change the decorations in his room to match his growing up or that you are committed to painting it again in a few years. Bright colors are still great for older kids though. It just depends on their style.
Pinks and blues are the classic girl and boy colors. They are still great for rooms too. There are tons of different shades and so it gives you a great opportunity to pick a color that is great and that is really girly or masculine. Don’t be afraid of using these colors.
Warm neutral tones are great for kids too. Some kids look at their room as a sanctuary and the warm tones help make it feel like one. The best thing is, they probably won’t need to get a new paint job in a few years as the colors are so neutral that they can fit with so many types of décor.
When you pick a color for your child’s room, make sure they are involved. They know what they like and will love the experience. It will teach them a lot about making decisions and not making them rash. There are so many choices and it will give them a great responsibility. You should be there to make sure they are picking a good color and not one that will look horrible. Be the supervisor watching.
