Is your child gone off to college? When your kids move out of the house, it can be a fun, but difficult time. You worry about them. You want to make sure they are eating right, and that they are going to bed early, etc. Instead of worrying, do what you can to help your child’s experience be easier and better. The following are some tips for stocking your child’s dorm room:
Food
College age kids are always hungry, and looking for snacks. They may stay up late studying and need some fuel to keep them going, or maybe they are having a get together. Whatever the reason, snacks and other food is key to stocking your child’s dorm. Choose healthy options, as chances are they are not taking very good care of themselves. Get whole grain crackers, pretzels, nuts, popcorn, etc.
If you live close enough, send them pre-made meals in individual portions so that it is easy for them to eat a meal that is healthy, and fulfilling.
Fun
When stocking your child’s dorm room, remember that even though they are at school, they still need to have fun. So, consider sending board games, cards, a video gaming system, etc. so that they have plenty of ways to stay entertained, and not go out looking for trouble.
You know your child, and the kinds of things they enjoy doing. So, when stocking up their dorm room, take their idea of fun into consideration. If your daughter would rather read a book all day then anything else, then find their favorite author, and fill their book shelf with new books. They will be reading a lot for school, so giving them something that is just fun for them will be greatly appreciated.
Electronics
When you stock your child’s dorm room, you can’t forget the electronic components. You will want to make sure they have a computer and printer, as these are almost essential now for school, but in addition, to that consider a scanner, memory sticks and cards. Make sure you provide cables so that they can hook everything up.
For the fun side of electronics, things like an iPod, a internet capable cell phone, and the like are also great, and helpful for your college child. It helps them stay in touch, relaxed, etc. while dealing with the stresses and excitement of college.
Personal items
When you stock your child’s dorm room, do not forget to leave them a few little extras. Personal items like shampoo, razors, cologne or perfume, and other little extras that they will certainly need and use can be fun. Good smelling lotions, or deodorant, and even new toothpastes and toothbrushes can be a fun surprise for your college student.
When stocking your child’s dorm room, don’t just focus on the essentials, try to do a few fun things to let them know how much you care and love them.
