Many moms spend so much time taking care of their children, that they rarely have time left for the things they enjoy. This is the sacrifice of mothers, but because of it, it can be difficult to come up with fun things to do on Mother’s Day. Why? Because many people are genuinely unaware of what kinds of things their mother would like doing. Here are a few tried and true ideas:
Go out to eat as a family. One thing most moms adore is having someone else feed the family, and not having to clean up afterwards. So, either plan a beautiful meal in your home that mom does not have to help with at all, or gather the family together and take them to mom’s favorite restaurant. Just be sure that you make mom the guest of honor, that her needs are met first, and that you take time to enjoy the meal and talk with one another.
Mother’s Day around the world. A really fun thing to do on Mother’s Day is to honor your mother in traditions from around the world. You can go online and Google “Mother’s Day” and find sites that outline what people do in various countries to celebrate their mothers. Then, you can copy those traditions. Which countries should you copy? Well, start by the country your mother originated from, or her ancestors. Then just choose the ones that sound the most fun. You can really show your mom how much you care, get some culture, and have fun all at the same time. It is a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day right.
Make a scrapbook with mom. This sounds very crafty, but it can be a fun way to spend an afternoon. Gather together all of your favorite pictures from memories you have with your mom, and put them together in a scrapbook for her to keep. If you are not the cutting, taping, embellishing kind of person, make it a digital scrapbook, or use one of the photo book making services. If you do it together you can create another memory while you preserve the old. It is also a great time to talk about the past, and let your mom know how much she has meant to you, how much you love her, and that you want to celebrate with her.
Whatever you do on Mother’s Day, if you want to have fun, make sure that mom is, because everyone knows that when mom is mad, the rest of the family feels it. Think about the kinds of things she would enjoy, and plan your activities for the day around that, and around sharing your favorite memories with your mom so that she knows she is appreciated by her children.
