Does your bathroom need a makeover, but your budget is small? The bathroom is one of the most used rooms in homes, and is often neglected because of the expense to remodel it. The following are a few ways you can give your bathroom a makeover for under $100.
Paint: Paint is one of the fastest ways to change the look of a room, and keep the cost low. When selecting paint for your bathroom, be sure to choose a sheen that will work well with the moisture that is typically found in a bathroom. In addition, because bathrooms are small rooms, choose a color that will not make it feel too dark or smaller than it actually is. Light, bright colors are often your best choice. Paint costs about $35 a gallon, and most bathrooms are pretty small so you can buy a half gallon or less. If your cabinets need a facelift, consider painting them as well. Just be sure to sand them down well and prepare them for paint.
New mirror: A bathroom mirror can outdate a bathroom faster than almost anything else. A new bathroom mirror in more modern design, or modern frame can make a big impact in such a small room. So, visit Ikea, for example, and spend $50 or so on a new mirror to go over your vanity. A thick framed mirror, or a streamlined, frameless, modern mirror can really make an impact in your bathroom. If the mirror you have can be changed, or repurposed, that may be an even cheaper option. Consider painting the frame the mirror you currently have is in.
Cleaning supplies: One of the cheapest, and best ways to give you bathroom an instant makeover for under $100 is to give it a thorough deep cleaning. Sometimes things like hard water build up, stains, and dirty grout and discolored caulking make a bathroom look and feel old and dirty. Invest in some heavy duty cleaners that can break through hard water stains, and remove old discoloration. Give your bathroom a thorough cleaning. A sink that has hard water build up will look brand new if you take the time to remove the hard water and give it a good cleaning.
Caulking: There are many places in the bathroom that require caulking, and this caulk can get dirty and discolored. Caulk does not cost much, and for a tube of $1o caulk, you can make an old bath tub look new again. So, take the time to re-caulk anything that needs it after you have cleaned your bathroom well.
Because a bathroom is such a little room, a few little changes that are fairly inexpensive can make a really big difference. Add in a fresh set of towels, and a newly laundered floor mat and your bathroom will look great, fresh, and instantly made over. This is a room you use every day, so don’t neglect to make it one you can feel comfortable and happy in.
