Your home’s bathroom is a room that could easily be made over for under $100 as long as you know where to spend, and what changes will make the most impact for the least amount of cost. New toilets, tubs, sinks, etc. can be very costly, but you can give your bathroom a new look without replacing them. Here is how to do it all for $100 or less:
Clean your bathroom thoroughly: One of the best things you can do is take everything out of your bathroom and give it a good scrubbing. Sometimes a bathroom looks old and outdated because of the buildup of dirt and grime. You may need to buy some commercial, or heavy duty cleaners that will cut through soap scum and hard water build up to renew and refresh your existing faucets, sinks, tubs, etc. Put a sparkle in your bathroom before you attempt to do anything else to make it over. Cleaning supplies will run you between $5 and $10.
Replace old, cracked, or discolored caulking: Now spend another $5 to $10 for a tube of new caulking. Take a few minutes to scrape the old caulking off your tub and enclosures. Then, take your new tube and put new caulking in that is not discolored or cracked. Let the caulk dry completely before you use the bathroom, otherwise it might not set properly.
Paint cabinets and walls: Your next beset bet is to buy some paint. Paint is one of the cheapest ways to affect a change of appearance to a room. Spend $10-$12 on a half gallon of paint for the walls, and $30 for some paint or stain for your cabinets. Just be sure that before you paint that you clean the affected area thoroughly, and that you sand it down, and prepare it to receive paint. Also, make sure you choose paint that can be used in a bathroom, and will not be affected too adversely by the moisture. The color of your paint will impact how good your bathroom looks. A bathroom is a rather small room, so colors that are too dark will make the room appear even darker. Choose bright colors that are on the lighter side of the spectrum. It will help your bathroom look fresh and light.
Get a new mirror and new towels: Spend the remained of your budget on some new accessories for your bathroom. A new mirror with a better frame, or a more updated look, as well as new fluffy towels or bath mats can make a bathroom look much better. A few well placed accessories, like a candle or potted plant, can be a facelift for a space as small as a bathroom. A new shower curtain can have the same basic affect. Give your bathroom a whole new look just by changing the color scheme and modernizing the look of the things you put in it.
