A bully is never a good thing. When a kid is being bullied, it can mess with their self-confidence and negatively affect them for their whole future. The following is a look at ten ways to stop a bully in order to keep yourself from being a victim.
- Report the bully. This is the most important thing to do. A bully is not going to keep bullying if they know that their victim is on the path to getting them into trouble. Every time a bully is reported, it takes away some of their power. They usually pick victims who they don’t believe will ever tell on them.
- Don’t give them a reaction. Usually a bully has a goal in mind. They typically bully in order to see fear, or get some kind of reaction from their victim. If you are bullied, and you simply do not react, then the bully will not get any kind of pleasure from bullying you. It is like when a possum plays dead, the predator usually leaves it alone because it is no fun.
- Improve your confidence. If you do not want to be a victim of a bully, then it is time to work on your personal self-confidence. Bullies usually pick on kids who are easy targets, who don’t have friends, and who are not likely to fight back. So, take some self-defense courses, and learn to stick up for yourself, and to feel that you are worth sticking up for.
- Get others involved. If you are being bullied, a fast way to put a stop to it is to get teachers and others involved. You will want to tell the parents of the bully, tell your own parents, tell the teacher, and anyone else that can help to put a stop to the bully.
- Learn to stand up for yourself. A great way to stop a bully is to stand up for yourself. Tell them to stop, and don’t be afraid to push back, punch back, or whatever else it takes to make sure they don’t forget that you are not going to be an easy target.
- Don’t ever let a bully get away with bullying you. Tell on them, fight back to them, and the like.
- Stick with friends. Bullies often pick on kids who are alone. When someone has a friend with them, they are less likely to put up with being pushed around. So, if you do not want to be an easy target, then try not to be alone.
- Be smart about who you are and where you go. You don’t want to put yourself in situations that allow bullying. In other words, if the playground monitor is near the swing sets, you should be too, if you wander off to the back fields, out of the sight of the monitor, you become an easy target.
- If you want to stop a bully, you can’t mimic the behavior. If you become the bully you will find that your problems are not solved.
- Lastly, control your emotions and make sure you do not let yourself get emotional about it. If you do, you will boost the ego of the bully, and lead to further bullying.
