Because a first born child provides their parents with so many exciting events they are a big deal. And, that big deal status doesn’t seem to ever go away. They are the center of attention, and are used to being the person the spotlight is on. This leads to a natural confidence. This leads to feeling important. Being first born often leads to traits that are enviable, traits that lead to becoming president or an astronaut, or something else that is grand. The following are a few of the first-born personality traits that are often a part of birth order:
One: Confidence. Kids are so used to having all the attention. They are used to being showered with praise, and attention, and as a result, they grow up knowing they are worth paying attention to. This confidence can help them reach goals and get places in life that they might not get to otherwise.
Two: Determination. Kids are used to being in the spotlight, and because of it they are determined to be there, to stay there, and to not let anyone down. They set goals, they finish projects, they work hard. It may be for others, but that determination is there, and because of it they tend to succeed.
Three: Leadership. First-born children come out of the womb as a leader. They lead the family as far as kids go. In this position they are usually given more responsibility. They are asked to care for their younger siblings, to make decisions, and more. So, they are raised in training to be the boss, to be the one in charge, to be the one with responsibilities.
Four: A pleaser. Even though they are born leaders, they often are people pleasers as well. They find themselves not speaking up or sharing their opinions because they do not want to cause a problem, or be perceived as less than perfect.
Five: Organized. First-born children have been the ones who have had to help for years with cleaning up, with finding missing keys, with getting dinner on, and more. So, they are used to helping with stuff, and needing to know where stuff is, and as a result they tend to have organization down. They may not be the most outwardly organized person, but they seem to have a system, and tend to have some method to their madness.
Being the first born often means having some pressure on you, and as a result you may develop certain personality characteristics, but this doesn’t mean you can’t change who you are or how you see the world. It can often put you on certain paths, but just because people have expectations, or you grew up feeling a certain way, doesn’t mean you can’t change those feelings, or make something else of yourself. It is your world, so be who you want to be, birth order be darned.
