Everyone needs to be pampered sometimes, and have a spa day, however, it can be really expensive to go to an actual spa, so a home spa can be a cost effective alternative. The following are some home spa ideas to help you feel relaxed and pampered at a fraction of the cost:
First, set the atmosphere. One of the best things about going to a spa is that it is usually a very relaxing atmosphere. There is typically mood lighting, soft music playing, a clean, minimalist appearance, soft fluffy towels or robes, and more. For your home spa, it is a good idea to try and duplicate that. Here’s how:
- Candles- Set some candles up around the room you are going to have your home spa in, and light them. This will give you a relaxing, dimmed light atmosphere. If you choose scented candles, make sure you pick a scent that will be relaxing as well, such as lavender.
- Towels- Go splurge a little and buy yourself some high end, big fluffy towels. You will use them to wrap up between spa treatments, etc. It can be really nice to get the white ones, so that you can clean any excess spa treatment products off them easily, and bleach them to keep them clean.
- Music- Set some relaxing music playing, but keep it low. Enya or soft sounds, or ocean or rainforest sounds, etc. can be really relaxing. It is supposed to be something you hear kind of subconsciously, and that keeps your mind relaxed.
In the spirit of staying relaxed at your home spa, it might be wise to send your family elsewhere. If you are a mom, it can be hard to have a home spa day if your children are knocking on the door asking for things, or your husband comes in and asks you where his tie is, etc. So, part of setting the mood is to make sure you can have peace and quiet.
Here are a few of the things you can do at a home spa:
Pedicure- Create a nice foot bath, and soak your sore and tired feet in it for several minutes. You will want to put a few drops of essential oil in, like lavender, to help relax your feet. Once soaked, pull them out and use a cuticle remover to get rid of the excess skin. Rub down your heels and toes to remove excess skin. Then, use a relaxing, soothing lotion to make the skin nice and soft. Then shape and paint your toe nails.
Facial- For this you want to start by turning the shower on hot, and shutting the bathroom door. Once it is nice and steamy, go into the bathroom for a few minutes and let the steam open your pores. Then, apply a nice mud mask, and sit and let it process while you read a book, magazine, or just relax. Once processed, use gentle cleanser to remove it. Use some toner, then moisturize. You will feel as though you have brand new skin.
Other home spa treatments can include giving your spouse a massage, and they you, removing hair, and all sorts of other things, so determine what sounds good to you, and try and recreate the experience at home.

These sound like fantastic ideas! I want to do a facial while sitting in my hot tub on the porch, maybe with some soft music on. Warm water and a face mask together sound just divine.
