If you are a mom then you are likely busy. Very few moms know the meaning of the phrase “free time” simply because it is not part of a mother’s vocabulary. One word that most moms do understand and are extremely familiar with is stress. The fact is that being a mom and facing the challenges specific to moms such as loads of endless laundry, always another meal to fix, and kids to take here and things to pick up there makes for a lot of stress. The following are some things moms can do daily to handle the stress that is inherent with the wonderful blessings of being a mom:
Exercise. One of the best stress busters moms can employ is exercising. Most gyms and fitness centers, including community recreation centers, offer a day care. So, even if you have small children at home that do not go to school, you can still take some time to work out. Exercise is a great way to physically get rid of stress. It can calm your body and can help you to be relaxed.
Breakfast. The fact is that if you want to bust stress, you have to have fuel in your body. If you want to be able to handle the pressures of being a mom, start your day out right with a good healthy meal. You have been fasting for several hours, so when you wake up your body is going to need energy to be able to handle the natural stresses that come with parenting.
Something for you. If you want to bust stress you have to spend time for yourself. Being a parent is one of the least selfish things you can do. You have no choice but to give of yourself. You have to put your child’s needs before yours, especially when your child is too small to do things for themselves. So, every day help eliminate your stress by taking time to do something you enjoy, whether that is a walk outside, a few minutes surfing the web, reading a good romance novel, or anything that helps you relax and enjoy life.
Ask for help. One of the best ways to bust stress is to simply get some help once in a while. It can be hard to admit that you are not perfect. It can be difficult to show that you are not the perfect parent, or that your house is not always perfectly clean, etc. But, the truth is no one can handle everything by themselves, so take advantage of people in your life who can help. Ask your mom to take the kids on occasion for no reason other than to get your nails done. Have your husband pick up dinner on his way home from work, and eat on paper plates so you do not have dishes. If you can reduce your stress levels by consciously making your life easier you will not have to practice eliminating built up stress as often. You are a busy mom, so let people help when they can.
Share the load. You have a lot on your plate as a mom, and when you throw in the responsibilities of housekeeping, working (since some moms do that too), laundry mat, cook, and more your stress levels can go through the roof. So, dedicate at least one day a week to sharing the load. This means that for one day a week you pay someone else to do your dishes, make your meals, etc. You simply enjoy the joys of motherhood like playing with your children, and reading to them. By sharing some of the load you can reduce your stress and be a happier, better mom.
