Addressing drug use with your children doesn’t have to be the headache that most parents think it may be. When you address drug use with your children there are benefits on each side to be had. You will know what your kids think about drug use and your kids will understand where you are in regards to drug use.

Addressing drug use with your children should be done at an early age. The first time you give your kids medicine of any type for colds or pain, let your children know that you are only giving them enough medicine to make the pain go away or to take care of the germs. Show your kids the correct way to take drugs responsibly. Addressing drugs in this way with your kids can lay a great foundation for future discussions about drugs.

Addressing drugs with your children should be done on a frequent basis. This allows for your kids to address any new questions they may have about drugs. As your kids grow they will continue to hear and see more things about illegal drugs. Addressing drugs with your children regularly will give you the opportunity to find out what your children know and your children will get the opportunity to ask those questions. When you address drug use with your children on a regular basis then the talks will become easier on both sides.

Drug use can also be addressed with your children when you see popular Hollywood stars or musicians and even athletes on the news. Address why these idols may have turned to drugs and things that they could have done differently. Many children admire these stars and look up to them. Addressing the problems that can happen to their idols when they use drugs is a good way to discuss the bad things that can happen when someone abuses drugs.

When addressing drug use with your children you will want to address the problems that can happen to people who abuse drugs. Address how people can ruin their lives and the lives of their families when they abuse drugs. Take this opportunity to address the health effects of drug abuse with your children. Let them know that drugs, no matter how small or available; can lead to many health problems and sometimes death. Address the dangers of drug abuse so that your children may start to understand why drug abuse is a serious topic. During this time you should also address how drug abuse can also harm the lives and families of strangers.

Addressing drug use with your children should include you discussing the rules you have in your home about the abuse of any drugs. Lay down the rules to your children when addressing drug use. They need to know how you feel about drug use and what they have as consequences if they use drugs. Make sure that your children understand that these rules you have are not negotiable. This is one issue that you need to stand firm on with your children. You should also address how society feels about drug use and the laws against illegal drug use.

Whenever you are addressing drug use with children you should be open and honest about the things you tell your children. Tell your children how you feel about drug use and why you feel so strongly about it. Listen to your children when addressing drug use. You may learn things about your children and the pressures they deal with to use drugs. Addressing drug use with your children should be done more than once throughout their lives.
