Preschoolers often are in the busiest stage of early childhood development. During early childhood development, they will learn cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional skills. The cognitive skills they are learning focus on basic skills like the alphabet, colors, shapes, and numbers.
If you have a toddler, you may be wondering where your child can get the education they need in their early childhood development. Preschool is a great place for children to learn all the necessary skills. In preschool, your child will learn arts and crafts, music, dramatic play, sensory play, storytelling, and other skills they may not be able to learn at home. Studies have shown that children that attend preschool are more emotionally prepared for kindergarten. Children in preschool also have the chance to explore their social skills with other children their age. Preschool is also beneficial to working parents who have the comfort of knowing their child is in a safe, reliable environment where they are learning and growing new skills.
Coloring will prepare your child for school activities.
During preschool your child will participate in several coloring activities that help to expand their cognitive skills. So how can you find great coloring activities to teach your child? Of course, there is always the Internet that comes with a variety of web sites focusing on education and reasoning activities. (Try Free Kids Coloring for printable coloring pages!) There are also great activities you can use in your home with your child. Have you ever seen those differently colored stacking blocks? Those blocks help your child learn needed reasoning skills. Here are some other things you can do with your child to teach them necessary skills:
•Pick a color of the day and have your child identify different objects around the house that are that color. If you go for a car ride, have them identify different objects in the outside world that are that color. For example, you can pick the color green and tell your child to identify everything green. They will be able to identify cars, trees, billboards, and many things that they see while you are in the car. This teaches not only color classification, but how to classify objects by their names as well.
•Play the “what is” game. For this game your child will identify their favorite color and then they will have to find objects in the room that are this color.
•Use different colors of construction paper and cut them into three inch squares. Now place all the colors on the ground and have your child match the appropriate colors to each other. If possible, glue a black backing to all the colors to make the game more challenging.
There are other games you can play to teach your child excellent cognitive skills. Many retail stores sell different books and games to help your child develop motor and cognitive skills. A great place to find coloring activities is PBSkids. The PBS kid’s web site has printable coloring activities you can use with your child. Many of the coloring activities include information from their popular children’s programming. Shows like “Arthur”, “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Curious George” all have coloring activities you can print out and do with your child.
Crayola also has excellent printable coloring activities you can perform with your child. You can select coloring pages that have different coloring patterns for your child to learn like spirals versus circles. There are also coloring activities that focus on the holidays, so you can teach your child about the holidays with different colors. Crayola also has coloring pictures that can be made into board games and several other games. This is a great web site to get free coloring activities for your child.
