Imagine the sun’s rays on your back, the smell of freshly cut grass, the beauty of nature. Now imagine that you are with a bunch of friends and you are playing a great game of football. You pass the ball to your best buddy. He runs for the end zone as fast as he can and gets slammed by another friend. They get up and pat each other on the back. The next down you throw a perfect touch down pass. These are the sorts of memories we carry with us in life. If you think back to one of your favorite days, it will probably be a day like this one. Outdoor games are great for our health. Not only do we get great exercise through them, but we engage in excellent competition with others and push ourselves. It can also be great for our minds and bodies to get out into the sun. Many of us spend most of our lives in buildings. When it is winter the sun is hardly ever out. This can have a very bad effect on our minds and spirits. When you get the opportunity to play outside in the sun you should take it. It will actually improve your spirits to spend some time in nature. So if you are planning a great outdoor game day, what games should you play?
Get a group together to play outdoor games.
Before choosing which games to play think about who is going to play them. If you have people who don’t like each other, don’t plan on highly competitive contact sports. A game of football amongst friends is great, but when you get a couple of die hard competitors or enemies in there you are going to have an injury. Also, besides injuries or war, think about the athletic abillities of your friends or family. It will not be fun to play outdoor games if the game is too difficult for the participants. Consider the ages and abilities of the participants and choose a game accordingly. Finally, always provide refreshments, especially on days when it is very hot or dry.
So what games are you going to play with your friends on a game day? Consider some of the most popular outdoor games. These are games like: Football, soccer, baseball, ultimate frisbee, and rugby. These are by far the most popular of outdoor games, although this depends on what country you are in. Besides these, consider some less likely alternatives, such as tag, capture the flag, and the blob. If you have not played the blob you should give it a try. The game is played with a large group in a large area. One person volunteers to be the blob. The blob tries to touch people. When they are touched they become part of the blob. As the blob grows it is more difficult to avoid it, but it moves more slowly, because all the people in the blob have to hold hands.
Other popular outdoor games would be things like sack races or three legged races. These are lots of fun but they can cause injuries. If you are going to have a sack or three legged race watch out for a bad or uneeven playing field.
Give these popular outdoor games a try and you will not be disappointed. There is nothing like a well planned day of outdoor activities. You and your children will never forget it. With some patience and proper planning you will have a fun and productive day of outdoor game playing. Good luck in all your outdoor games!
