Internet addictions, we have all heard of them. However, moms are one of the top culprits of this. Moms are simply addicted to the Internet. They use it daily. They often spend hours online. Why are moms so addicted to the Internet?
1. Social aspect.
Most moms spend a great deal of time with their children, and have far less time to spend cultivating their own relationships and friendships. Because they are running this kid here, and that kid there, have to get dinner on the table, homework done, etc. many moms have little time to go out and socialize with people. The Internet provides them with the opportunity to do so in a way that fits their time and their schedule. They may have a few hours free in the morning, and are busy the rest of the day. Well, during those few hours they can send emails, update their Facebook page, get party invites sent out via the Internet, etc. and if their friends aren’t available during that time, it does not matter, when they are they can respond. Moms love the social opportunities, and social aspects of the Internet. Moms use sites like Facebook to connect with their friends and family. Moms love email. Moms create blogs to journal, to share, and to socialize. Moms read other blogs for the same reasons. The social side of the Internet is very appealing to moms.
2. Convenience.
The Internet is addicting because of the convenience it offers to moms. Many moms are busy. Especially moms with several children. The Internet is extremely convenient. You do not have to get ready to use it. You do not have to even be dressed. You do not have to use it during “regular business hours”, you do not have to be on at the same time as your friends in order to talk. You do not have to get the kids into the car. etc. A mom can grocery shop, clothing shop, pay her bills, order food, and even reserve movie tickets all from the convenience of home. So, for moms, the fact that it is easy, convenient, and a big time saver is reason enough to feed the addiction with constant Internet use. And why not? You can check your child’s school lunch calendar to see if you need to make them a home lunch, get the weather to figure out how to dress them, order your next Netflix movie to keep them entertained that night, get your groceries ordered and delivered to your door, and even find the perfect black dress for your husband’s work party, without ever getting out of your pajamas.
3. Something for them.
Another big reason moms are addicted to the Internet is that it provides them with something that is theirs. They can have an email address that their kids can’t share. They can have a Facebook page. They can start a blog. They can spend time browsing and no one can offer suggestions of where to go. The fact is, many moms are sharing all day. Their time, their cup, their clothes, etc. Many men have things that are for them, such as playing basketball with friends, or something else, but with moms this is not always as possible because they have to be home with their kids, so the Internet provides it.
