The way parents react and act these days is different from how it used to be. Moms are not sitting at home wearing pearls and vacuuming in high heels. Moms are more active, busy, working, and doing other things with their time. The following are some of the top parenting trends of 2009:
Facebook: Moms are spending more and more time online. Facebook is starting to become the mommy way of bragging about your kids and posting information about your life. Even celebrities are creating Facebook pages where they post updates about their children, photos of family vacations and so on. Facebook is like the mommy updater. If your child learns to walk, you put a note about it on Facebook, and maybe even post a video link as well. If you want to be up with the trend of parents, then join Facebook, litter it with pictures of your prego belly, your baby, and comments and other posts about being a mom and having a child. If you miss the Facebook bus, you are not up with the trends.
Natural home remedies: One of the biggest trends of parenting for 2009 is the movement away from medications, prescriptions, etc. and toward natural remedies. There has been more and more information released about some of the negative side effects of heavy medications, so instead of getting some prescription from the doctor when your kid has a cold, parents are trying herbal teas, hot lemon tea with honey, and other herbal and natural remedies for getting better. This goes hand in hand with the trend toward healthier eating, less processed and refined foods, and more veggies for kids. This is why fast food places now offer apple slices, juices, and options other than French fries.
Improved pregnancy care: One of the big trends in the parenting for 2009 is that of better pregnancy care. Parents are being more careful to take their prenatal vitamins, and to eat healthy during pregnancy so that their children start out on the right foot. This means taking omega 3 fish oils, eating fresh and healthy foods, exercising to stay fit, but not overdoing it. Pregnancy is not about being fat, bed head and ugly, it is about being fit, dressing good, and being the hip pregnant woman. Many of the popular, trendy clothing stores now offer pregnancy clothing. Being a mommy is not a thing to be embarrassed about and hiding the pregnant tummy under flowy over sized T-shirts; instead, tight, form-fitting shirts that show off the belly is in.
There are many other trends in parenting, most of which are similar to these. Parenting is becoming cool, chic, and healthy. If you want to stay up with the trends of 2009, choose a sturdy name for your child, and watch the celebs. Doing anything the Obama kids do is popular and trendy, or follow the trend of the popular celebs with kids, like Angelina.
