Circle games are a great way to get people involved and having fun interacting with each other. There are several different circle games that can be played outdoors. The following are a few examples:
Tomato:
For this game you have everyone sit in a circle, and one person stand at the center of the circle. That person has a ball, and they will throw it to someone on the outside of the circle. When they do, that person gets to ask the person at the center a question. Regardless of what they ask, the person at the center must respond with “Tomato.” The person on the outside throws the ball back, and the center person chooses a new question asker by throwing them the ball. They too ask a question, and the center person again must answer with “Tomato.” The object of the game is to get the center person to laugh. The first person to make the center person laugh wins a try in the middle.
Circle games are fun for everyone.
Doors and windows:
To play this game have everyone form a circle by holding hands and spreading out until arms are fully extended. Then choose one person to be “it”. This person must weave in and out of the other kids in the circle, who are still holding hands. The idea of the game is to trap the person by closing the door or window they are about to go through. You do this by dropping your hand. If the person gets trapped or touched, they are out and must sit out. The person who touched them is in, and you go until there is no one left standing.
Circle Jump
To play this game you have to have a long rope, and two people to hold it, as well as others to form the circle. Form a circle, have someone sit in the center of the circle and hold on to the end of the rope, then have someone on the outside of the circle hold the other end. They will run around the circle, bent over as to keep the rope close to the ground, and the people forming the circle must jump it. If they miss it, or fail to jump, they become the runner, or the center, and the person replaced takes their place. Alternate between runner and center. The runner speeds up and slows down in order to trick the jumpers.
Medicine Ball Run-Around
For this game you have to have two teams, and they both must form a circle, so you have two separate circles. You then number both teams off. The number 1’s start out the contest. They are given a medicine ball, or anything else that is heavy, and they must run around the circle, then pass it off to the number 2 person, and take their place. The first team to complete their whole team wins. You can mix the game up some by making it so the person has to run with the ball between their knees, and if they drop it they have to start over, etc.
