Your skin on your face puts up with a lot of abuse, from the UV rays of the sun, to dryness, pressure, pulling, tugging, etc. It also happens to be some of the most sensitive skin on your body. This means that you should be caring for it regularly. One great way to care for your facial skin, and give it a boost is through a facial. However, facials can be expensive and time consuming. The following is the steps to a five minute facial at home:
Cleanse the skin. Take about a minute or so to clean your face really well. Use a mild cleanser designed specifically for washing the face, as a normal soap is too harsh. When applying and cleaning the facial skin, use your ring and center fingers, as they are the weakest fingers on your hand, and thus the gentlest on your skin. Move your fingers in circular motions to cleanse the skin.
Exfoliate. You can combine this step with the one above by using a cleanser that has an exfoliate in it. If you don’t have one with both, then exfoliate next. Again, use the middle and ring fingers, and rub in gentle circular motions so as not to pull on or damage the skin in any way.
Steam your face. Now fill your sink with hot water, and hold your face over it for 20 seconds, then dip in a washcloth, and pat the hot water on your skin gently. This will open up your pores, and thus make the mask in the next step more effective.
Use a mud mask. Buy a facial mask at the store, and then use it during this step. To keep your facial to five minutes, choose a mask that is fast acting, and that you only leave on for a minute or two. A mask will help clear your pores, tighten the skin on your face, and renew or rejuvenate it.
Moisturize. The last step of a five minute facial is to moisturize. The mask may leave your skin feeling a bit dry. Dry skin leads to over production of oil, which can lead to acne, etc. So, keep skin moist and supple. Not only will your skin look and feel better, but you will also be preventing wrinkles in the process. Again, when applying your moisturizer, do so gently, so as not to rub, pull, or put too much pressure on your facial skin. Doing so creates wrinkle patterns, and you will find when you get older that your skin is really wrinkled as a result. Prevention is the best step.
Give yourself a five minute home facial once a month, and then whenever you feel you need it. If you have been extra stressed, or something else has been happening that has caused you to break out, etc. an extra facial can be helpful.
