“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” was written by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith in 2009. The main characters throughout the novel were Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. This novel is a parody of Jane Austen’s best-selling Pride and Prejudice. It follows the basic storyline of the original Pride and Prejudice, but with random zombies thrown in.
The text would most likely confuse the reader because of the excessive amount of dialogue. One would find themselves having to re-read a lot. I found myself having to because I was unsure of who said what at certain times. The book jacket although, went along with the book.
Elizabeth was my favorite character. She was a true warrior in my eyes. I liked how she was confident in her ability to fight. She could “talk the talk and walk the walk” Lady Catherine was my least favorite character. She told Elizabeth that basically she wasn’t worthy of marrying her nephew Mr. Darcy and that she wanted her to leave Mr. Darcy alone.
I did not find this book to my liking. It’s not that is a bad book, it’s just that the book did not interest me much at all. The book did not appeal to me on an emotional level. It was just hard for me to follow along.
One of the main things that were unappealing to me throughout the novel was, new characters constantly being introduced. It was hard to follow along without getting confused. It was also hard to follow what character was speaking. The dialogue wasn’t stated clearly to where one would know who was saying what.
Another thing that I did not like was the random zombies. It didn’t flow well. It seemed like the zombies just came out of nowhere. It also didn’t make sense how the characters that encountered the zombies always had a weapon to fend them off.
I would not recommend this book if you have a hard time following along with books that don’t remain constant. You must give this book your full, undivided attention if you choose to read it. If you find yourself reading this book whether it be for fun or academic reading, my advice would be to take your time and re-read if you are the least bit confused.

I agree, The Flow of this book was a bit choppy. Thanks to this book, I’m not sure if I want to read Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.
