Being a mom is a fun, but sometimes overwhelming task. You have to feed, clothe, and care for your children. In addition to that you generally have to keep your home clean, and handle other responsibilities such as carpool, mentor, homework helper, and more. With these responsibilities you become incredibly busy, and often times incredibly stressed. Any mom who pretends they do not feel stress as a result of their responsibility is heading for a break down due to the fact that they are in denial. The following are some tips for how to eliminate stress as a busy mom:
Smile often: Did you know that the act of smiling can elevate your spirits? The truth is that even if you do not feel like smiling, just putting your mouth in that position can alter your body and make your mood elevate and your stress levels decrease. So, take time each day to think of something funny, or to do something you enjoy so that you smile and laugh. Laughing and smiling is a natural remedy for relieving stress, and can help your body to relax. So, even if you do not feel like it, smile. If you have to, turn on the comedy channel of your television for a few minutes a day so that you laugh at something, no matter how small.
You time: If you want to eliminate the stress that comes from being a busy mom, you have to take time out from being busy mom. Having an identity outside of “mommy” is a big part of not letting stress overwhelm you. You can join a book club, scrapbook with friends, get your nails or hair done, take a bubble bath, or anything that is going to make you feel like someone outside of a parent. Do not talk about your child, do not do something for them, do something for you, and just you everyday. This helps you get rid of built up anxiety and stress, and it helps you to be a better parent.
Share the load: A great way to eliminate stress is to consciously see that someone else is handling some of your responsibilities. It is amazing what knowing that you can do less does for your stress levels. You can talk to your husband, a parent, or whoever, to have them aid you some. Even if sharing the load means letting Dominos make dinner instead of you, that can do a lot to eliminate stress.
Find your outlet and do it daily: Everyone has something that helps them to get rid of stress, and it is different for each and every person. So, what you need to do is figure out what it is that gives you an outlet. For some women baking can wash stress away like a bath, for others baking is going to add to stress. For some it is exercise that helps them to eliminate stress. Some like to read, some watch television, listen to music, shop, eat, etc. Figure out your outlet, and even if it is singing at the top of your lungs in the shower, when you feel stress start to over take you, take some time to use that outlet as a tool to rid your body of stress and renew your spirit so you can go back to being happy mom that is the perfect kind of parent.
Eliminating stress is a choice. Learn how you personally rid yourself of stress, and then make a point of exercising those options often so that you can be the kind of parent you want to be.
