Bringing The Fun Indoors: 5 Great Ideas for Enjoying Time Inside

It is possible for the kids to enjoy being indoors and with a little imagination you can enjoy indoor fun all year long. The following are five great ideas for indoor fun to help push away boredom on those rainy days, during very hot weather, dead of winter or any other time you are forced to stay inside and find something to do.

1.) Puppets

Puppets can provide hours of indoor fun. Make your own puppets using brown lunch sacks, buttons, do-dads and other common small household items, like twist ties or make sock puppets using old socks. Then take an old box and build a stage so your child or children can spend hours of fun making up plays and performing puppet shows in the home. You could even make admission tickets, concession popcorn and other theater favorites.

2.) Hats

When your kids are stuck inside, bored, you can entertain them for several hours with paper grocery bags, glue, feathers, glitter, buttons and all sorts of other embellishments. Take two paper bags, put them inside one another, then roll them up to make nice big hat. Using paint, glue and embellishments, decorate the hat to fit your personality. These are really fun hats and your child can enjoy several long periods of time making and decorating the bags.

3.) Forts

Indoor forts are one of the joys of childhood. To help your child build a giant fort using furniture, blankets draped over, pillows and the like. Your kids can find things a plenty to fill their imagination and time indoors under the protection of a home-made fort. You can build separate forts for each child and let them protect them, play prince, knight, dragon and all sorts of other games.

4.) Bake

One fun thing to do whether you are ten or two when you are stuck indoors is to bake fun treats. You can bake sugar cookies and cut them out into different designs, then use frosting and sprinkles to decorate them. You can make rice crispie treats, dye them with food coloring and then shape them into all sorts of fun things. Bake a cake, or try your hand at home made donuts or pies. Let the kids help with every step of the process, include the measuring and stirring.

5.) Crafts

There are plenty of crafts to fill time indoors with fun. If your child is a boy then make cardboard airplanes, pinewood derby cars or maybe Lego houses. If you’ve got a girl, you might want to buy a jewelry making kit or a paper doll kit, perhaps. Find a craft that interests your child and let them enjoy it.

All of these are excellent ideas but the point of all of them is to find an activity that your child or children will enjoy which allows your child to have fun indoors while keeping busy. These activities can also teach children to entertain themselves.
